My journey - Eduhuerto

Context

The opportunity arose to teach "huerto" (gardening) classes at kindergartens. Drawing from the recent experience with Brassica, I deduced that the most efficient path to achieve a change in consumption habits would be through educating the new generations. With the help and expertise education professionals and two collegues, we designed and sold an educational program for preschool grades that utilized gardening as a tool to guide children in understanding their relationship with the environment through food cultivation.

Achievements:

Schools represent a significant market with spending power, making them a crucial customer base for materials purchased by parents.
Currently, there are very few educational programs with a clear methodology that schools can use to teach these topics.
The SEP (Secretary of Public Education) requires schools to have a huerto, creating interest in the sector for advisory and implementation services.

Learnings:

Ensuring a standard in the delivery of a methodology requires proper staff training.
Developing brand content while operating the business simultaneously can be counterproductive, necessitating a capable team.
A clear financial plan, sales strategy, and personalized customer follow-up are indispensable for the successful functioning of a model in this sector.

Objective and Personal Achievements in the Framework of Food Sovereignty:

The objective of this project was to sow the seeds of environmental care and conscious eating habits in the younger generations. While this hypothesis proved accurate, I did not fully anticipate the resistance from parents and teaching staff in shaping the children's habits.

Eduhuerto provided a platform for fostering eco-literacy and environmental consciousness among young children, an essential step in promoting a sustainable and regenerative future. However, I discovered that lasting change would require concerted efforts in education and reeducation, encompassing both the youth and the older generations.

Through this project, I gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of promoting eco-literacy in educational institutions, deepening my understanding of how education plays a pivotal role in the journey towards a more sustainable and regenerative world.
